Allens Arthur Robinson continues its association with the IAMA Conference for the third year in a row.
Held on 26-28 May, the 2006 national conference focused on the topic 'Drawing a line in the sand: new approaches in ADR'. Allens is proud to have sponsored the conference's keynote speaker, The Honourable Justice Ian Callinan AC. In a wide-ranging address, the eminent judge considered the case for state subsidisation of mediation and whether the courts should have power to order alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
The conference also addressed new approaches in arbitration, mediation, adjudication and provision of a diversity of new ADR services in areas such as industrial relations, maritime law and native title.
The Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia (IAMA) is the nation's largest, independent and most experienced ADR organsiation. Founded in 1975, its membership comprises some of Australia's eminent and experienced professionals from a diverse range of sectors including commercial, legal, education and government. Allens Partner John Dorter is a life fellow and former president and Partner John Cooper is a member.
