Corporate funds
We advise a number of Australia's major corporate superannuation funds,
including Westpac, Brambles, BHP, Shell, UniSuper, Australia Post and Rio Tinto.
Superannuation reforms
We acted for Rio Tinto and other companies in testing the Federal
Government's superannuation contribution surcharge legislation. The Government
introduced legislation retrospectively in response to this collective action.
SA Electricity industry
We acted on the conversion of the South Australian Electricity Industry Fund
from a constitutionally protected fund to a taxed fund (as part of the
privatisation of the South Australian electricity industry).
Public Transport Corporation
Allens advised the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance on Public
Transport Corporation superannuation.
Repatriation cases
We acted in a number of significant repatriation cases, including the
successful Shell Case before the Industrial Relations Commission.
NSW State Super
We advised the NSW Treasury on the privatisation of the funds management arm
of State Super and the split-off of the local government and energy sectors of
the State Super funds, as well as on the trade sale of Axiom.
Fund mergers
Allens advised on the merger of funds for Sara Lee, Shell, Fosters and
others.
