Some of our recent projects have included:
Restructure and sale of Queensland energy businesses
Advised the Queensland Government on the restructuring and subsequent A$3
billion sale of its electricity and gas retail, and gas distribution
businesses.
Queensland Government divestment of energy assets
Advising the Queensland Government on the sale of its Enertrade gas business and
the wind generation assets of Stanwell Corporation and Tarong Energy.
Ministerial Council on Energy
Advising the Standing Committee of Officials (a committee of senior
Commonwealth, state and territory officials acting under the auspices of the
Ministerial Council on Energy) on the development and implementation of
significant reforms to the regulation of Australia's energy markets.
Bluewaters power stations
Advised the Griffin Group in relation to the construction of the Bluewaters I
and II power stations, the first privately funded, owned and operated coal-fired
power stations in Western Australia.
Emu Downs wind farm - offset of Kwinana Desalination Plant greenhouse outputs
Acted for the project sponsors, Stanwell Corporation and Griffin Energy, on the
development of the A$180m Emu Downs wind farm in Western Australia. The wind
farm was developed to offset greenhouse issues associated with the Kwinana
Desalination Plant.
ZeroGen Project
Advising the Queensland Government-owned electricity generator, Stanwell
Corporation, on the 'ZeroGen Project' in central Queensland. The project
involves a proposed demonstration plant to prove up clean coal technology
involving carbon capture and storage.
Victorian Essential Services Commission (ESC)
Advising the ESC in relation to the interpretation and application of its
regulatory functions and powers under the Essential Services Commission Act
2001, Electricity Industry Act 2000 and Victorian Renewable Energy Act 2006.
This includes advising on the development and implementation of the Victorian
Renewable Energy Target (VRET) Scheme.
Meridian Energy
Advised Meridian Energy on the sale of its Australian power generation interests
(wind and hydro - the largest renewable electricity generation portfolio in
Australia) to AGL.
Victorian gas and electricity industry reform
Advised the Victorian Government on the reform of its electricity and gas
industries. Advised on the drafting and implementation of the legislative and
regulatory aspects of the reforms in both industries, as well as the changes
needed to enable the disaggregation of the State Electricity Commission of
Victoria and the privatisation of the government-owned businesses in those
industries.
Portland and Point Henry aluminium smelters
Advised Victorian Government agencies over many years on the electricity supply
arrangements for the Portland and Point Henry aluminium smelters.
Generation
Acting for the bidders and their financiers as to the SWIS Peaker, West
Kimberley, Alinta/ALCOA cogeneration, NRG, Redbank 2, Lake Bonney Windfarm and
various cogeneration power station projects.
Loy Yang A sale
Acting for the vendors of the 2000MW Loy Yang A Power Station and the associated
coal mine.
Meridian Energy's acquisition of Southern Hydro
Advising Meridian Energy on its acquisition of Southern Hydro. The work involved
a detailed due diligence review in all key areas and advising of the sale
agreement and related issues.
National Electricity Market Management Company (NEMMCO)
Advising NEMMCO since its inception in 1999 on the implementation of an
inter-regional settlement residues auction in the national electricity market.
Tarong North Power Station
Acting for a consortium in its post-commissioning acquisition of 50 per cent of
the Tarong North Power Station. Our work included the acquisition and ongoing
project documentation, as well as advising on electricity and other regulatory
issues.
