Climate Change

Climate change is one of the most significant economic, legal and political issues of our time. In an area where the law is changing rapidly and constantly developing, our lawyers have the skills and dedication to deliver innovative commercial and legal solutions to respond to the issues presented by climate change.

Our team

Our Climate Change Group draws together specialists from across the firm's Australian and international offices, combining lawyers from our energy, resources, finance, corporate, environmental, litigation and infrastructure practice areas.

Our team has been involved in groundbreaking work in Australia and across Asia.

Our extensive resources enable us to stay abreast of legal issues relating to climate change across multiple jurisdictions and to keep our clients informed of how these may influence regulation in Australia and Asia.

Our experience

Allens Arthur Robinson (Allens) has undertaken pre-eminent work advising clients on environmental issues, including climate change, for many years.

Our lawyers are taking a leading role in advising clients on projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including carbon capture and storage projects and forestry sequestration. Our extensive experience in the renewable energy sector spans all aspects of new projects, from environmental and planning studies and project financing, to design, construction and the ongoing operation of projects.

We are at the forefront of legal developments on greenhouse gas emissions from mining projects and the potential for offsetting those emissions.

Our Climate Change Group has provided extensive advice to major corporates in relation to their obligations under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme (NGERS) and on the opportunities and risks arising out of the Federal Government's proposed Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS). This has included the preparation of detailed NGERS compliance manuals, advising on the application of NGERS in a variety of different circumstances, assisting clients to draft submissions in response to the exposure draft CPRS legislation, and drafting carbon pass-through and carbon cost allocation clauses for joint venture agreements, outsourcing contracts, supply contracts and hedging agreements.
