Our Telecoms team has significant experience and expertise in regional Asian telecoms transactions and projects.

Having team members based right across the region also means our telecoms specialists have an in-depth understanding of both the Asian and Australian telecoms industries and regulatory environments.

Clients for whom we have acted include Alcatel, STAR, Orange, Hutchison Telecommunications, Telecom New Zealand Group, Global Crossing, TCI Hong Kong, Nokia, Korea Telecom and Celestial Pictures. Our team advises regularly on complex telecoms issues, including regulatory and access issues, M&A and joint ventures in the telecoms sector, and telecoms outsourcing.

We have acted for participants in every sector of the telecoms industry, including carriers, resellers, Internet service providers, investment banks, telecoms equipment suppliers, and large corporate and government users of telecoms services.

Celestial Pictures Limited
Advised on channel set-up and distribution arrangements and agreements for the establishment of a Chinese-language movie-based satellite TV channel operating Asia-wide out of Hong Kong, including advising on master business terms and distribution agreements for use by Celestial.

Ericsson
Advised on the worldwide establishment of a joint venture with Sony Corporation, including in China and Thailand, relating to Ericsson's cell phone business.

Hutchison Telecommunications
Acting for Hutchison in relation to its expansion of coverage in Vietnam, which includes rolling out a new network, and its negotiations with two telecommunication infrastructure providers, Ericsson and Huawei.

Kinnevik
Assisted on the drafting of contracts and related documents in relation to establishing 'Mobifone', the first mobile network in Vietnam, and provided ongoing corporate and commercial legal advice.

Macquarie Corporate Telecommunications Limited
Preparation of a submission to the Office of the Telecommunications Authority in Hong Kong in relation to Type II interconnection (local loop unbundling).

Macquarie Media Group
Advised Macquarie in relation to the US$880 million acquisition of Carlyle Group's interests in Taiwan Broadband Communications.

Nortel
Advised in relation to the supply, installation, operation and maintenance of Hutchison's US$300 million mobile phone network.

NTT
Drafted the contract and related documents for the business cooperation between NTT and Vietnam Post & Telecommunications. We also advised on licensing, regulatory and financing matters.

PT Hutchison CP Telecommunications
Advising on all legal and commercial aspects associated with the sale and lease back of 4,000 telecommunications towers across Indonesia and the construction of fibre optic network and upgrade of microwave base network in Sumatra and Java.

STAR
Advised STAR (a Hong Kong-based subsidiary of News Corporation) on its acquisition of ANTV, an Indonesian terrestrial broadcaster, including on financing and shareholder arrangements. We continue to advise Star on further potential acquisitions in Indonesia and around the region.

Advising on a range of co-production, format licensing and mobile content licensing projects.
