Bird flu research receives $6.5 million in commonwealth funding
20 February – Thirty-three research projects aiming to prevent, detect or control avian influenza and other respiratory disease outbreaks will receive $6.5 million in urgent research funding from the Commonwealth Government. The major recipients of funding and the approximate amounts are: The University of Sydney ($450,000), The University of New South Wales ($250,000), the Westmead Millennium Institute ($118 000), The University of Melbourne ($400,000), The University of Queensland ($300,000).
