Doctor's order cause for celebration at Allens
6 December 2011
The University of Queensland has awarded Allens Arthur Robinson (Allens) Brisbane-based consultant Alan Millhouse a Doctor of Laws honoris causa.
The prestigious honour was given to Mr Millhouse in recognition of his distinguished career, his service to Queensland and Australia and his contribution to The University of Queensland as an Adjunct Professor in Law.
Mr Millhouse joined Feez Ruthning, now Allens, as a graduate in 1975 and became a partner in 1981.
He is a former President of the Queensland Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and, while in that role, co-led various Australian trade missions to Japan and worked closely with the Australia Japan Business Co-operation Committee.
Mr Millhouse is a former President of the Banking and Financial Services Association of Australia, a former President of the Infrastructure Association of Queensland and a former executive committee member of the Australian Council of Infrastructure Development and Infrastructure Partnerships Australia. While serving in those roles, he advised federal and state governments on formulating legal and commercial guidelines to regulate the involvement of the private sector in the delivery of public infrastructure.
Allens' Queensland Practice Director Erin Feros said that Mr Millhouse is a distinguished member of the Australian legal industry and a leader of the profession in Queensland.
The recognition caps off a big year for Allens' Brisbane office.
In August, Partner Tracey Harrip was awarded the Queensland Chapter of the French Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Chevalier dans l'Ordre National du Mérite. Recipients of the award, which recognises distinguished civil or military achievements, are chosen by the President of France, on the advice of the government.
