Allens Arthur Robinson features strongly in first-half M&A tables
3 July 2007
Allens Arthur Robinson featured strongly in large Australasian mergers and acquisitions occurring in first-half 2007, according to the Thomson Financial M&A Legal Advisor Review released today.
AAR advised the principal players on 39 announced deals in Australasia between 1 January and 30 June at a total value of $17.6 billion.
AAR was credited with 51 completed deals, equating to more than 16 per cent of the market share.
AAR Partner Ewen Crouch, co-head of AAR's M&A practice group, said: 'It's been an extremely busy first-half. AAR's M&A team has had a hand in many of the major transactions taking place in the past six months.
'It was also busier than the tables suggest. The team were advising on an additional $47 billion of deals during the period surveyed that were not credited in this period: Cemex/Rinker, Qantas/Airline Partners Australia, Wesfarmers/Coles, Smorgon/OneSteel and Bendigo Bank/Bank of Queensland. If these deals were included the total value of advised deals would have been $64 billion.
'Our M&A practice is in a particularly strong shape and our geographical spread of deals is good. The deal pipeline continues to reflect the involvement of our Brisbane and Perth offices in M&A activity, in addition to the work being done out of our busy Sydney and Melbourne offices.
On the outlook for the second half of 2007, Mr Crouch said: 'Corporations remain interested in strategic opportunities. Private equity also continues to provoke M&A activity and interest rates remain relatively stable. It looks like another busy period ahead.'
