Allens Arthur Robinson wins Hong Kong Client Choice award
28 September 2005
Allens Arthur Robinson (AAR) has been ranked above all US, English and Asian firms in being awarded the International Law Office (ILO) Client Choice award 2005 for Hong Kong. AAR was praised by clients for its clear, decisive recommendations and its commercial awareness.
Jim Dunstan, AAR's executive partner, Asia-Pacific, said: 'To win the Client Choice award for Hong Kong against all other international firms that operate there is a testament to the skills and expertise that we offer not just to Australian companies, but to all companies in the region.
'This award is recognition of the international nature of AAR's practice - something we will continue to build on in the future.'
Don Hess, partner in charge, Hong Kong office, said: 'It's pleasing that we've been singled out for recognition for excellent client service, as this is a key tenet of our approach.'
'It's especially pleasing as it is clients that are giving us the thumbs up in a very competitive legal market. We will redouble our efforts to keep on improving our level of client service.'
About 40% of all the international lawyers in Asia are based in Hong Kong, according to a recent Hong Kong Trade Development Council study, with some 70 international firms competing for business in the Special Administrative Region.
In response to the ILO survey, corporate counsel remarked that AAR does not 'sit on the fence': 'AAR responds well to time constraints without any detraction from the thoroughness or overall quality of their work. They ensure that we are alive to commercial realities to weigh against the strictly legal approach,' the ILO said.
AAR has a total of 8 partners and 28 lawyers based in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing, of which 4 partners and 9 lawyers are in Hong Kong.
Mr Dunstan said AAR is targeting steady growth in the Greater China region, following the doubling of its presence in both Hong Kong and mainland China during the past 18 months to meet increased client demand.
Background
The ILO Client Choice Awards have been established to recognise law firms around the world who add real value to their clients' business above other players in the market. The shortlist was generated from an ILO subscriber survey of over 1000 corporate counsel. The award presentation was made following the International Bar Association Annual Meeting in Prague on 27 September.
