Allens Arthur Robinson announces nine new partners

Allens Arthur Robinson (Allens) is pleased to announce the
following nine lawyers have been elected to the partnership, effective 1 July,
2008:

Allens Chairman Jim Thynne said the new appointments were spread across five
offices and five practice groups.
'These appointments demonstrate the broadening network of the firm
geographically and the depth of talent within the firm.
'It is also an expression of the confidence that the partnership has in the next
generation of the firm's leaders and in the firm's future, especially in Asia.'
Allens Managing Partner Michael Rose said: 'On behalf of the partnership, I
wish the new partners every success. I am sure that they will make a significant
contribution to the firm's continued growth.'
A short profile of each partner-elect follows.
Marae Ciantar
Marae joined the firm in Melbourne in 2000. Since 2003, he has been a member
of the South East Asia practice, initially in Cambodia and over the past two
years in Singapore. During Marae's time in South East Asia he has worked on a
number of major energy and resources projects, while continuing to develop the
firm's private sector practice in Cambodia. Marae holds Bachelor of Commerce and
Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degrees from Monash University.
Alex Cuthbertson
Alex worked as a journalist with the Herald and Weekly Times in Melbourne,
before subsequently graduating with first class honours in Arts-Law from the
University of Melbourne in 1996. Alex joined the firm in 1996, and then worked
as a lawyer in London with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer from 2001 until 2005,
before returning to the firm's Litigation Department, based in Melbourne. Alex
has significant experience across large-scale litigious matters, including
construction disputes, tax disputes, class actions and regulatory matters.
Robert Fish
Robert graduated with double first class honours degrees from Oxford
University in 1997 and then spent five years with Slaughter and May in London.
In 2003, he was seconded to Slaughter and May's Singapore office. Robert was
then seconded to the in-house legal team at Standard Chartered Bank in Hong
Kong. He subsequently joined the firm's Singapore office in 2006 and has since
been actively working on a number of large and complex banking and finance,
projects, and M&A transactions across the Asia region.
Richard Harris
Richard commenced with the firm in Sydney in 1997. Following a rotation to
the Corporate Department, Richard then moved into the LIP Department, including
a three month secondment with Westpac in 2001. Richard has developed both a
commercial litigation and insolvency practice and has well developed
relationships with a broad range of the firm's key clients.
David Holme
David will join the Jakarta office on secondment from 1 July. David joined
the firm in Melbourne in 2001 and after stints in the Melbourne competition law,
litigation, and energy, resources and infrastructure practices, moved to
Singapore in 2005 as a senior associate. Since the move to Asia, David has
developed an energy and resources practice, and this will be his major focus in
Jakarta. He is a graduate of Monash University.
Michael Ilott
Michael holds a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) and Bachelor of Laws
(first class honours) degree from the University of Technology. Joining the firm
in Brisbane in 1998, Michael has since focused on developing both insolvency and
commercial litigation practices, developing close relationships with clients.
Bill McCredie
Bill completed Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Laws degrees, both with
honours, at the University of Sydney in 1996 and 2000 respectively. He completed
a Masters of Laws at the University of NSW in 2007. Bill joined the firm in
1998, becoming a key member of the environment and planning law practice in the
Sydney office. In mid-2007, Bill transferred to our Brisbane office to develop
the Queensland environment and planning practice, and has already developed
significant relationships with a number of key clients.
Matthew McLennan
Matthew completed his Arts-Law degree at Sydney University in 1996 and
joined the firm in 1998, following a year as an associate to Justice Foster in
the Federal Court. Matthew also worked for Slaughter and May in London from 2002
to 2004. He is a core member of the firm's regulatory and insolvency practices
and has built strong contacts with clients.
Pak Widyawan
Widyawan has an excellent market reputation in the core areas of energy,
resources, and infrastructure, and is consistently ranked as a leading lawyer in
Indonesia in these markets. Widyawan obtained his master of laws degree from
Universitas Indonesia in 1977. Following completion of his Bachelor of Laws
degree from Universitas Indonesia in 1976, he joined the Legal Aid Institute
Jakarta before joining Unocal Indonesia as in-house counsel in November 1978. In
August 2005, Widyawan, together with Gatot Triprasetio and Anhar Rivai, formed
the new firm Widyawan & Partners.
