Allens Arthur Robinson wins Australasian Law Firm of the Year

23 May 2005

Leading law firm Allens Arthur Robinson (AAR) has been named 2005 Australasian Law Firm of the Year by international legal publishers Chambers and Partners. AAR Chairman Jim Thynne accepted the prestigious award on behalf of the firm at a ceremony in London over the weekend.

In making the award, the Chambers judges commented:

Allens Arthur Robinson's pre-eminent reputation as a trusted adviser in high-stakes matters was again confirmed in 2004. Broadly experienced and globally knowledgeable, the firm advised on News Corporation's re-incorporation in the United States, BHP Billiton's $A2.3 billion off-market share buy-back and Sony Music's merger with BMG. It was also the premier project finance adviser in the Asia-Pacific region.

'This is a satisfying result, as the Chambers survey is one of the most respected in the market. The judging panel comprises in-house counsel from corporations based around the world, assessing each firm from a client's point of view,' said AAR Managing Partner Tom Poulton.

'We had a pleasing 2004 and 2005 is also looking strong. Our commitment to clients has been confirmed by the Chambers win and by being placed above over 500 professional services firms in the BRW St.George Client Choice Awards. We have been awarded the ALB International Deal of the Year for the News Corporation reincorporation - among many other Deal of the Year awards - and were one of only 115 firms to be named an Employer of Choice for Women by the Equal Opportunity in Workplace Agency.

'Awards like these don't happen by accident. They happen because of clear thinking, hard work and client focus. I'd like to thank our partners, staff and clients without whom we could not win these types of awards,' Mr Poulton said.
