Allens acts for ACCIONA Agua in its joint bid win for A$1.4 billion desalination plant

23 February 2009

Allens Arthur Robinson (Allens) has acted for ACCIONA Agua, an international leader in water treatment, in assisting the company's successful bid for Adelaide's A$1.4 billion desalination plant contract.

Acciona Agua was part of a four-organisation consortium, called AdelaideAqua, that was selected as the preferred consortium to deliver this important infrastructure for South Australia.

Spanish firm ACCIONA Agua worked alongside consortium members United Utilities Australia, McConnell Dowell Constructors and Abigroup Contractors to make up the successful bidding team.

Melbourne-based Partner Emma Warren and Senior Associate Sonja Bennetto led the team on the deal, advising ACCIONA Agua on the complex set of contractual documents, covering design and construction, operations and maintenance.

According to Ms Warren: 'This transaction was both legally and technically complex. It involved a number of parties in the consortium with different roles and the transaction also needed to be completed in a very short timeframe.'

'It was great to be the part of the successful consortium given the hard work of all in the bid team.'

ACCIONA Agua is a leader in the water treatment sector with the ability to design, construct and operate drinking water treatment plants, residual purification plants, tertiary treatment plants for re-use and reverse-osmosis desalination plants.

AdelaideAqua will design, build, operate and maintain the plant at Port Stanvac for 20 years.
