Allens Arthur Robinson appoints two new Banking & Finance partners
16 June 2005
Allens Arthur Robinson has announced that Tom Highnam and Rob Watt, both Senior Associates in the firm's Banking & Finance Department based in Sydney, will become Partners on 1 July.
Of the six new partners announced by AAR this year, the fact that two are in the Banking & Finance area, emphasises its importance to the firm.
'Our Banking & Finance Department is one of the powerhouses of the firm, ' said Jim Dunstan, Executive Partner, Banking & Finance and Asia Pacific.
'We are finding that there is a strong trend in the market to use only the handful of top tier firms for complex and sophisticated finance work. Tom and Rob are superb finance lawyers and their elevation to partnership allows us to keep developing the quality and depth demanded by our clients.
'Our recent track record has included key advisory roles in all of the finance and capital markets deals to win awards at the 2005 Australasian Legal Business Awards and capturing the top spot on both the Asia-Pacific and Australasian Dealogic project finance league tables for 2004. With a further expanded team, we aim to repeat the performance over the next year and increase our market leadership.'
About Tom Highnam: Tom specialises in structured finance and acquisition finance. He is well regarded for his expertise in derivatives, advising in relation to synthetic CDO's, market value swaps, credit, equity and commodity derivatives. In the acquisition finance area, he advised the financiers on the LBO of Pacific Brands and recently acted for different sets of bridge financiers on Project Shearwater (Alinta & DUETs purchase of Aquila Inc's Australian assets), on DUET's acquisition of the Dampier to Bunbury pipeline, on Ramsay's acquisition of Affinity, and on Macquarie Communications Infrastructure Group's £1.27billion acquisition of ntl:broadcast in the UK.
About Rob Watt: Rob has extensive experience in project and structured finance across the resources, power and infrastructure sectors, including advising on the Cross City Tunnel and Lane Cove Tunnel in Sydney, the Beira Interior Shadow Toll Road Project in Portugal (ProjectFinance Transport Deal of 1999), the US$1.7 billion Shuweihat S1 Power and Water Desalination Project in Abu Dhabi (ProjectFinance Power Deal of 2001), and the US$500 million San Lorenzo Power Project in the Philippines.
