Allens Arthur Robinson takes silver in New York corporate race

12 October 2006

Allens Arthur Robinson showed winged heels in running into second place in the mixed teams section of the JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge Championship earlier this week.

AAR Partner Tom Highnam, Lawyers Peter Beacroft and Anna Thwaites, and Client Services Manager Prue Davison, covered the 5.6 kilometre Manhattan course in a combined 1 hour, 19 minutes and 53 seconds, beating home teams from around the globe such as the Principal Financial Group from Chicago, Roche Diagnostics from Frankfurt and the Singapore American School.

'It was such a great experience to run down Park Avenue with the New Yorkers cheering us on,' said Tom Highnam. 'It was an excellent team effort and we were very proud to represent Allens and the Australian professional community.'

The AAR mixed team won the right to compete in the Championship after beating all-comers at the Sydney preliminary race held in November last year.

'It was a great achievement that the team qualified for the final in New York, but to have gone on to finish second on Park Avenue among a highly competitive international field deserves a ticker tape parade on their return,' said AAR Managing Partner Tom Poulton.

'They might have to settle for a pat on the back and a hearty well done!'

Royal Mail Letters from London were the only mixed team to overcome the AAR attack.

'It's important for lawyers to be fast on their feet, but perhaps even more important for those with the post office,' Mr Poulton said.

The individual results were no less impressive: Peter Beacroft ran tenth in the Men's classification, Tom Highnam ran 19th. Prue Davison also ran 19th in the Women's, and Anna Thwaites came in 43rd.

More than 220,000 employees take part in the Corporate Challenge in 12 cities around the globe.
