Allens wins award for corporate social responsibility program

12 November 2009

Allens Arthur Robinson (Allens) has been recognised for its corporate social responsibility program at the Australian Human Resources Institute Awards held in Melbourne last night.

Allens won the Danah Zohar Award for Corporate Social Responsibility, ahead of the other finalists, Atlassian, Guild Group, Luxottica, and Main Roads Western Australia.

The firm's Director of People & Development, Susan Ferrier, said the award was recognition of the firm's long-held belief in the importance of its corporate social responsibility role.

'We are so privileged to have such gifted and motivated people who want to make a difference, not only in the law and in business but in the wider community,' Ms Ferrier said.

'The firm's Corporate Social Responsibility program is our way of responding to our people's aspirations and recognising that we have broad responsibilities that extend beyond our business – to our people, their families and to the community at large.'

Among the firm's core corporate social responsibility initiatives are a Reconciliation Action Plan, an extensive pro bono practice, support for charitable organisations, responsible environmental practices, the Women at Allens program, and academic, sporting and cultural sponsorships.

The award's judges said that Allens has shown that it takes seriously its responsibilities as a member of the business community to show leadership and to contribute to the public interest.

The firm was also a finalist in the Wayne Cascio Award for Responsible Restructuring.

This latest recognition comes two weeks after Michael Rose won the Neller HR Champion and the firm was nominated in the categories of HR Partners Award for Best HR Leader and the Mastertek Award for Employer of Choice (more than 1000 employees) at the HR Leadership Awards.
