AAR works on resort deal

12 July 2004

Allens Arthur Robinson acted for General Property Trust and Voyages Hotels & Resorts Pty Limited in their recent acquisition of the P&O Australian Resorts portfolio.

The portfolio of eight luxury nature-based resorts, with a capacity of 571 rooms, includes Silky Oaks Lodge and the Dunk and the Bedarra, Brampton, Lizard, Heron and Wilson Island resorts in Queensland, and Cradle Mountain Lodge in Tasmania. It also includes Wrotham Park, a luxury outback resort under construction in North Queensland.

The $225 million deal, which will be formally completed at the end of July, was led out of AAR's Brisbane office by partner John Gallimore, who was assisted by lawyers Sophie Chamberlin, Belinda Clarke, Amy Hoban and Jo Segger.

"This deal is one of the major tourism acquisitions in recent years in Australia and is a further step in the rationalisation of resort ownership in this country," said John.

"It was a complex and interesting transaction that took several months to come to fruition.

"But unfortunately we didn't get to visit any of the resorts as part of the due diligence!" he added.
