Allens acts for Hutchison on merger with Vodafone

11 June 2009

Allens Arthur Robinson (Allens) acted for Hutchison in the merger of its Australian telecommunications business with Vodafone, which was announced on 9 February 2009 and, following clearance from the ACCC last week, was completed on 10 June 2009.

The merger creates a 50:50 joint venture called Vodafone Hutchison Australia Pty Limited (VHA), the third largest mobile operator in Australia.

Allens advised Hutchison on the deal for many months, covering three streams: Corporate, Integration Strategy and Competition.

Allens Partner Fiona Crosbie led the Competition team and according to Ms Crosbie: 'The last two months of the deal in particular involved an intense focus on securing clearance from the Commission.

'Allens was thrilled to assist Hutchison on this industry-changing transaction. We look forward to working with VHA as it embarks on a new and exciting journey.'
