Allens acts for the GPT Group in $200 million shopping centre acquisition
2 November 2009
Allens Arthur Robinson (Allens) has advised the GPT Group (GPT), one of Australia’s largest diversified listed property groups, in its acquisition of additional interests in Highpoint Shopping Centre and Homemaker City in Maribyrnong, Victoria.
The transactions – valued at more than A$200 million – involved GPT acquiring an additional 16.67 per cent share in the properties from the Besen Family, who had previously owned 50 per cent.
The Allens team, comprising Partners Nicholas Cowie and Tony Sheehan and Senior Overseas Practitioner Jayne Fullerton, advised GPT on all facets of the transaction, including deal structure and documentation.
'This recent transaction consolidates a major interest in one of Australia's leading shopping centre complexes,' said Mr Cowie.
'Allens has a long-standing relationship with GPT – including recently advising it on its capital raising worth approximately A$1.7 billion and the recent sale of Floreat Forum shopping centre to a Perth investor.
'We are always delighted to work alongside GPT on strategic transactions like this recent acquisition.'
