Steve Clifford has more than 25 years' experience providing commercial, legal and strategic advice to his clients. Steve practises in general corporate law, including business acquisitions and disposals, takeovers, capital raisings, private equity and corporate governance.

Steve’s practice has had an international flavour for many years. In the 1990's he worked as a lawyer in New York and from 2000 to 2002 he was Managing Partner of Allens Arthur Robinson's Singapore office, with responsibility for South East Asia. Since then, overseas clients have been a key element of his M&A practice, both from the sell side and buy side.

Steve regularly advises local and overseas corporations on corporations law, transactional and stock exchange matters and advises his clients in relation to acquisitions and investments in Australia and Asia. In the mergers and acquisitions area, his experience and expertise is called upon by clients in a wide variety of industries. In 2009 he acted for the German buyer of Australian fashion business Herringbone. During 2009 and 2010 he acted in the sale of various businesses in the Timbercorp Group, to local and overseas buyers. And in 2010 he acted for various funds advised by Catalyst Investment Managers in their acquisition of refrigeration business Actrol Parts. In the capital markets area, Steve has advised on several major capital raisings, including equity offerings and privatisations. Steve has contributed articles on various corporate law issues to legal journals in Australia and overseas. He has lectured in Asia, and in Australia for the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Leo Cussen Institute and the Securities Institute of Australia.

Steve has been described by the Legal Profiles publication as ‘highly commercial and extremely responsive’, and has been named as a leader in his field in the International Who’s Who of Corporate Governance Lawyers.
