Jim has many years of litigation experience in large commercial disputes and in the intellectual property field.

He has acted for major corporations in the banking, music, entertainment, broadcasting, electronics and computer fields, as well as for leading organisations and personalities in relation to sports and associated licensing programs. Jim's clients in relation to trade marks, passing off, copyright, confidential information, patents and designs include large Australian and multi-national corporations.

Jim's clients have included:

  • Sony BMG Music Entertainment Australia;
  • Sony Computer Entertainment;
  • Westpac;
  • Philips;
  • The Ritz Hotel (Paris);
  • International Olympic Committee;
  • Airservices Australia; and
  • Rugby World Cup 2003 and 2007.

Jim has written extensively for Australian and international publications, including:

  • Lahore, Patents, Trade Marks and Related Rights, 1981-2005 (co-author); 2005- (consulting editor), and
  • Intellectual Property Reports, 1982- (co-editor).

Professional bodies

  • Deputy Chairman of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Law Council of Australia from 2006 to 2008, and Committee Member for over ten years;
  • Member of the International Trade Mark Association (INTA); and
  • Member of the International Bar Association (IBA).
