Graduates
Allens Arthur Robinson is committed to ensuring new recruits develop a legal knowledge of each practice area and get the experience and training to form the basis of a successful career.
You won't be waiting years for interesting work and responsibility. Our lawyers work in teams, and you are part of a team from day one. You will have a 'buddy' - a junior lawyer who will answer your day-to-day questions and help you settle in, as well as a Development Supervisor, who is responsible for making sure you receive the necessary on-the-job training, feedback, guidance and formal training for the duration of each rotation.
At Allens the emphasis is on quality advice and work, not 'billable hours'. Our young lawyers are encouraged to take the time to learn and develop the skills needed to analyse legal problems and provide accurate commercial advice.
Law graduates spend their first two years rotating through two practice groups that are ideally in different departments. Gaining extensive first-hand experience in two different practice groups can help you decide the area that you'd like to work in on a longer-term basis. We believe that our 12-month rotation program provides a comprehensive, rather than superficial, knowledge of each practice area, giving graduates an opportunity to develop strong relationships with partners and other lawyers in the practice group. At the end of their second rotation, our lawyers may choose to specialise or complete a third rotation in another practice group.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a graduate position with Allens Arthur Robinson, you must have the right to live and work in Australia on a permanent basis.
How to apply
Due to the success of our summer clerkship program, graduate positions are usually filled by previous summer clerks. However, from time to time, we have the capacity to take on additional graduates. If you are interested in a graduate position and have an exceptional CV, please use our online system to register your interest. Please note that this form registers your expression of interest and is not an application for a job. We will keep your details on file and contact you if a suitable graduate position becomes available.
Practical legal training (PLT)
Allens provides an in-house, PLT program for its graduates in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. This program allows our graduates to fulfil their admission requirements. The course was designed by the College of Law in New South Wales, but is specifically tailored to Allens Arthur Robinson and the type of work that our firm does. The program consists primarily of online training, but includes face-to-face components.
Learning & Development
At Allens, our ambition is to create a rewarding and supportive work environment that underpins our values and where there are outstanding levels of achievement, energy, career development and opportunity.
