Allens Arthur Robinson

We are looking for interesting people with strong academic results who are motivated, show initiative, have strong interpersonal skills and lead balanced lives.

Graduates

Allens Arthur Robinson is committed to ensuring new recruits develop a legal knowledge of each practice area and get the experience and training to form the basis of a successful career.

You will not be waiting years for interesting work and responsibility. Our lawyers work in teams, and you are part of a team from day one. You will also have a 'buddy' – a junior lawyer who will answer your day-to-day questions and help you settle in, as well as a Development Supervisor, who is responsible for making sure their graduate receives the necessary on-the-job training, feedback, guidance and formal training for the duration of each rotation.

At Allens the emphasis is on quality advice and work, not 'billable hours'. Our young lawyers are encouraged to take the time to learn and develop the skills needed to analyse legal problems and provide accurate commercial advice.

We want our law graduates to stay on after their admission. We recruit with a long-term vision and do not have a policy of reducing numbers when graduates complete their graduate year with us.

We offer a single rotation for the duration of the graduate year. Young lawyers may then undertake two further 12-month rotations before specialisation. We believe that our 12-month rotation program provides a comprehensive, rather than superficial, knowledge of each practice area, giving graduates an opportunity to develop strong relationships with their supervisors and other partners and lawyers in the practice group. We take into account your preferences when deciding the practice group in which you will commence. The size of the firm means that we can be very flexible in seeking to ensure our lawyers get to work in areas that most interest them.

In line with the Law Institute of Victoria's replacement of articled clerkships from 2008, Allens Arthur Robinson will now be offering Law Graduate positions.

Practical legal training (PLT)

Allens provides an in-house PLT program for its graduates in Sydney, Melbourne (as of 2009), Brisbane and Perth. This program allows our graduates to fulfil their admission requirements. The course was designed by the College of Law in New South Wales, but is specifically tailored to Allens Arthur Robinson and the type of work that our firm does. The program consists primarily of online training, but includes face-to-face components.

At Allens, our ambition is to create a rewarding and supportive work environment that underpins our values, where there are outstanding levels of achievement, energy, career development and opportunity.
