Allens Arthur Robinson

Andrew Finch

Andrew says the nature of his role as an M&A partner at Allens Arthur Robinson means that he is a critical member of client teams in some of the "biggest and best deals going around".

The challenge of fast-paced and intellectually rigorous work is a major attraction of his job.

'I find the work intellectually stimulating. It's high profile because we do the biggest and best deals,' Andrew says.

'I enjoy working with senior management and deal teams to help clients achieve their most important strategic goals.'

Major clients Andrew has advised include Qantas, General Property Trust, Sandvik AB and OneSteel Limited.

Andrew's involvement with the firm began as a summer clerk in Sydney in the summer of 1990/91. He formally joined the firm in 1993 after completing commerce and law degrees at the University of New South Wales and working as an associate to a NSW Supreme Court judge.

He worked first in the Property section, then in Corporate & Commercial, before leaving to work in London, at large UK law firm Linklaters, for two years.

Andrew returned to Allens' Sydney office in 2001 and is now a partner in the Corporate & Commercial department, specialising in mergers and acquisitions.

Andrew says his experience at Linklaters gave him the opportunity to see how other firms operate.

'Working overseas gave me exposure to different ways of approaching issues and exposure to different kinds of work. For example, London was the central European hub for major transactions, which often involved me managing very large legal teams across a number of countries,' he says.

'Ultimately, though, the professional rewards of my time in London were a reflection of the skill base I developed at Allens. We do very high quality work here, a fact acknowledged by the high demand for our lawyers in London and elsewhere.'

With two young boys, most of Andrew's life outside work is taken up with family, and he says he is able to achieve a good work-life balance.
